Why
you have been referred |
Your
dentist has considered your treatment needs carefully
and has decided to refer you to our endodontic office.
Endodontics specializes in the diagnosis, prevention,
and treatment of diseases of your tooth’s nerve
system. This includes root canal treatment and associated
diseases of the gum and bone surrounding the tooth.
|
As
we now know how important it is to preserve your natural
teeth, root canal therapy enables us to save a tooth
that would otherwise have to be removed. Root canal
therapy is necessary when the pulp of the tooth has
become inflamed due to decay or disease, or when the
pulp has been injured due to trauma. Because the pulp
has lost its ability to heal itself, endodontic therapy
should be accomplished as soon as a diagnosis has been
made. Otherwise, serious conditions such as toothaches,
increased infection of the tooth, gums and jawbones
or even tooth loss are likely to occur. When your root
canal therapy is completed, you may need to return to
your own dentist to receive a permanent restoration
for your tooth. |
