Consultation: A clinical and radiographic examination (x-ray) is performed to determine if endodontic treatment is needed, if there are special treatment considerations, and if the tooth is restorable by your dentist after treatment. We will be happy to answer any of your questions about the cause of your endodontic problem, the treatment sequence, and the course of healing.
*In consideration of others and to ensure your visit is as comfortable as possible, please refrain from bringing children to the office with plans to stay for your entire treatment time.
*Please wear warm clothing as the operatory is quite cool.

Endodontic Therapy: A local (oral) anesthetic is given and a special device called a rubber dam is placed over the tooth to isolate it during treatment. An opening is made in the top of the tooth and the canals are cleaned. The canals are then filled with a synthetic material called Resilon. This material is the most biocompatible and will not leak infection back into the tooth like the old material called gutta percha.

After the Procedure: Following the procedure, you may experience some soreness and pressure, along with some slight swelling for just a few days. We will prescribe any medication that you might need: however most of our patients find ibuprofen or Advil effective. The discomfort that you may experience should not alarm you. This is a normal reaction and will not affect the success of your treatment. Should any excessive swelling or discomfort occur, call us as soon as possible.

Follow-Up Treatment: Upon completion of your endodontic therapy a temporary filling may have been placed in the tooth opening. Once your endodontic therapy has been completed, it is important for you to contact your dentist so that a permanent restoration for your tooth may be provided. If a permanent filling has been placed, your dentist will maintain your tooth at your regular check-ups. Our office may examine your tooth periodically, up to one year, until it has completely healed.
